Wedding Venues
With Spanish-moss-draped oaks, lakeside views, and historic architecture, Dunes West Golf Club transports you to your own private world. From lakeside ceremonies to cocktail hours on the wrap-around porch, this venue is ready to deliver the day of your dreams! As a Charleston wedding photographer, I love working with my clients to help them find the venues I know will perfectly match their styles. Here is what you can expect from a Dunes West Golf Club wedding!
3635 Wando Plantation Way, Mount Pleasant, South Carolina 29466
Dunes West Golf Club is a site rich in history. While formal production on the land started in the early 1700s, records show the area was first purchased in 1696. Throughout the years, the property produced common crops like cotton and rice while keeping its primary focus on brick development. Following the Civil War, the house was essentially razed and sat abandoned for over 60 years. In 1930, it was purchased by Henrietta Hartford, one of the wealthiest women in the entire nation. She quickly went to work ordering the construction of a house nearly as impressive as her!

With 32 rooms, horse stables, golf holes, servants’ quarters, and gardens designed by the acclaimed Olmsteads, it was a property worthy of royalty (which was proven by her 1937 marriage to the Prince of Italy). The property once again faced devastation when it mysteriously caught fire in 1942. Not all was lost, however, and the land was sold to the Georgia Pacific Company. Today, you can find bits and pieces of the original property throughout your visit. More than anything, the owners now work to weave together classic Southern hospitality with breathtaking views for the perfect day!
With Dunes West Golf Club, you can host your wedding starting at 4 PM. Before your ceremony begins, you will have access to the bridal suite, where you can slip into your dress. Many couples choose to spend the morning off-site getting ready with their respective wedding parties before heading to the property to put on all the final touches. From there, you can start taking portraits around the truly stunning site.

Once it’s time for your ceremony, you can choose one of three sites, each one scenic in its own way! If you prefer large, open fields, the golf course might be your best option! As you exchange your vows, you will have a picture-worthy view of the historic clubhouse on prominent display. For those who prefer something a bit more Southern, the Oak Grove is for you! As you exchange vows, Spanish moss will serve as a natural canopy. You can also set up your altar in front of a 300-year-old oak with the lake off just to the side. Lastly, intimate weddings can take place in the garden. This space is dreamy and romantic with tall hedges that give you a feeling of total privacy. Additionally, the venue can work with you to plan an indoor ceremony in case the weather ruins your original idea.

Next up will be the cocktail hour. The wrap-around porch is the ideal spot for this! As you walk around the property with your brand new spouse, your guests can sip on cocktails and take in the surrounding views.

From there, you can have an indoor reception in the clubhouse. The refined ballroom features tall ceilings, crown molding, and floor-to-ceiling windows that let in all the views. With a neutral color palette, weddings of every style will fit in perfectly. The venue will also let you hold this portion of your day out in the garden in case you would prefer an outdoor soiree. In total, Dunes West is able to host up to 200 guests.

With Dunes West, you will have countless backdrops for your portraits! Once it’s time for pictures with your bridal party, the porch is your spot. The natural lighting is gorgeous out here, and you’ll have that classic Southern charm for your portraits. This is also a popular spot for first look portraits. All the ceremony sites will serve as a good place for your group portraits. This area is relatively flat, ensuring people of all abilities can access it easily. Then, once it’s time for your couple’s portraits, the Oak Grove is your spot. While it’s lovely any time of day, it becomes downright ethereal once golden hour hits. During this time, you get the warm sunlight peaking across the Spanish moss as the water shines in the background.

Besides giving you an unforgettable backdrop, the team behind Dunes West Golf Club loves working with couples to make sure they have everything they need for their wedding day. Before your wedding day arrives, you will work with their culinary team to make the ideal menu for your celebration. They are ready to take on every style of cuisine from Carolina barbecue to low country seafood boils. They can also provide plated and buffet dinners. The venue has a list of preferred vendors who can take care of the other aspects of your wedding, including flowers and music.

Once your day arrives, you will receive the red carpet treatment! They will provide you with staff members who will keep your day running smoothly. The venue will handle tables, chairs, dinnerware, and glassware, plus they can handle set-up. You will be able to pick from a number of add-ons, including mosquito spray services and a banquet fee. Your guests will have on-site parking.
If you are looking for a South Carolina venue rich with Southern charm, I really think you are going to love a Dunes West Golf Club wedding! This historic space will ensure you have an iconic day you will never want to forget!
